“Pride and Passion” tells the story of how black baseball players, shut out of the major leagues within the late 19th century, organized their own clubs, and within the 1920s, formed their own leagues, which grew into a multi-million greenback enterprise and a supply of satisfaction within the African-American community. But that achievement also marked the beginning of the top of the Negro leagues era. “Players within the Negro leagues have been some of probably the most talented.
